Band Name: Elgin & District Pipe Band Established: 1975 Grade: 4B Tartan: McLean of Duart Pipe Major: Daniel Littlewood Lead Drummer: Douglas Caldwell Drum Major: Frank Munro Secretary: Christine Littlewood Location: Elgin, Moray Practice Info: Every Wednesday 6.30pm – 9.30pm in Elgin Academy. Beginners are taught on Thursday evenings at New Elgin Primary School - please contact the secretary for details. Website: N/A In recent years the band has gone through a radical change. The band was a serious competing band, with previous awards including Grade 4 World Champions. However, a change of Pipe Major along with the departure of the drum corp meant that the band were down to a handful of pipers and two drummers. The numbers have since increased due to in-house tutoring, along with performing in public. Although the band doesn’t compete at the moment, it is our aim to start again in the 2009 season. We have a hard work ethos and believe that practice will reap its rewards, along with the enjoyment that goes with it. These principles have built up the band again and we are very proud to say that we now have a playing pool of 25. We also play an active part in the community, promoting piping and drumming workshops & donating a lot of time to other charities for fund raising. |
