Ellon & District R.B.L. Pipe Band was formerly the Ellon & District Pipe Band, which was formed in 1974/75. The band first appeared in 1976 dressed in the Gordon tartan until the band made enough money and bought kilts in the Nicholson tartan.

The first Pipe Major was Douglas Findlater, who retired in 1977/78 and the position was taken over by Drew Robertson who held it until 2007. The members of the band vary in age, the youngest being 9 years of age, and the eldest 84 years. Another feature of the band is that it is is composed almost equally of male and female players.

We have formed an association with Concordia Brass Band from Belgium, which we have visited three times and they will be coming over to Scotland in August of 2006.

The band plays at all the local and some of the national competitions, in Grade 4. A pleasing thing about our performances, over many years has been that we have consistently been amongst the prize winners. We also play at local fetes and various functions in support of other organisations in our area. A couple of our higher profile engagements being to play at Braemar for the tourists in mid-summer, and the on the first Saturday in September, at Braemar Highland Gathering, when the Queen and members of the Royal Family are usually in attendance.
