Founded in 1907 the Band has been a prominent landmark in the piping and pipe band scene of the North East for many years. The Band is open to any player and is in no way restricted to Police employment or connections. Since 1991 the band has gone through its most successful ever period. Moving from Grade 3 in 1991 to Grade 1 for the start of the 1995 season. The Band then enjoyed a total of nine seasons in the top Grade.

Competing again in Grade 2 since the start of the 2005 season has given the Band the opportunity to recruit a number of young emerging players and concentrate on developing these players to provide a solid foundation for the next episode in our history. The Band are actively recruiting players at present and are particularly interested in hearing from any side drummers interested in joining. Please visit the recently overhauled Band website for further details and up to date information.

Although the main focus is on competing, the Band undertakes several high profile events throughout the year. In addition to these local and national events we are in much demand to appear at events abroad and have travelled extensively in recent years. As part of the centenary celebrations in 2007 the Band intend to perform at several prominent events around the North East and undertake two high profile international events. In addition to this the Band will launch a new tartan, record a CD and hopefully publish a collection of tunes. Once again our website will provide up to date information on all these activities.
