Formed in 2004 the school is exclusively for young people and provides tuition for young musicians from the age of 8 to 18 from Tain through to The Black Isle. This has provided the potential of our young musicians to increase their musical abilities, to improve their motor skills, to sharpen their powers of concentration and to develop their ability to work with other people.
The aims of The Pipes and Drums School are to enable our students to increase their musical ability and to demonstrate that ability through public appearances. To that end, in the summer of 2005, The Band made their first performances, playing when the QM2 and the QE2 docked at Invergordon. We also played at the Alness Historic Vehicle Parade, at The Glenmorangie Highland Gathering. Mini Bands also played for the senior citizens at Kintyre House and in Evanton. Many of our individual pipers were also asked to play at events.
The performances throughout 2005 not only increased the skills base of our young musicians but also enabled there to be an increase in their confidence and self-esteem and laid the base to enable them to compete during 2006.
Our own tartan is symbolic of the colours in the landscape of Ross and Cromarty, from its Firths and Lochs through farmland and forestry to the High Tops and our expansive skies.
