First formed in 1919 by ex-servicemen and originally know as Wick Comrades of the Great War pipe band, there have been mixed fortunes over the years. Spurred on by the appointment of the late Bobby Coghill as pipe major and tutor in 1984 until his passing in 2005 the band has flourished over this period, currently standing at a playing strength of 18 pipers 11 drummers and a drum major.

There are also a string of pupils in the pipeline all taught from within the band itself at the Pipe Band Hall, which the band purchased in 1995. The band do not compete but entertain locals and visitors alike, playing at galas, highland games and massed band events throughout the northern highlands.

Each Wednesday evening during July, August and early September the band stages a Scottish Variety Show in the Pipe Band Hall. Affiliations are enjoyed with the Highland Pipes and Drums of Waldsee in Germany and the Happy Pipers of Lucerne in Switzerland. The band has been proud to represent the town when playing at events in Edinburgh, London, Switzerland and Germany. Great support is received from the people of the town and the committed associate members who help raise band funds.
