Relay for Life 2010

11th January 2010

The next Relay for Life in Huntly will be staged on the 3rd and 4th July 2010. As part of a full 24 hours of family entertainment, the organisers would like to stage a massed pipe band session between 11.30 and 12.30 on Sunday 4th July 2010.

With the final North of Scotland Outdoor contest being held in showery weather at Mintlaw's Aden Country Park, the 2009 Champions of Champions Bands and Drum Majors have been crowned.

Our congratulations to the winners, and commisserations to those who missed out on a prize this time round. We wish everyone all the best for a hard Winter in the practice hall and look forward to seeing everyone out on the circuit again next year.

Looking forward, good luck to NoS Bands competing at the final Major Championships at Cowal Highland Gathering. Please remember to support the Branch at the upcoming social Night on Saturday 3rd October 2009, and the Branch Solo Piping & Drumming on Saturday 7th November 2009.

47th BB Centenery Tune Winner Announced

19th April 2009

There werea total of 6 entries from 5 different composers for the competition to compose a pipe tune to commemorate the centenery of the 47th Aberdeen (Culter) Boys Brigade. They were:

Paul Harrison - Dublin Ardross, by Alness
James Robertson - Kirkwall
Robert Grant - Peterculter
Andrew Clark - Logie Pert,by Montrose
William Hepburn Snr. - Turriff (2)

The judges for the competition were:

Stuart Reid - former Captain of the 47th and P/M of the Pipe Band
George Cowie - former Captain of the 47th and P/M of the Pipe Band, Centenry Committee Chairman
Mike Reid - present Captain of the 47th and P/M of the Pipe Band
Steve Insch - present P/M of the Culter & District Pipe Band and former P/M of the 47th band
Callum Lamont - current member of the 47th and Pipe Band.

After listening to all the tunes, not knowing which tune was written by whom, a vote was taken and the judging panel unanimously agreed on a tune. The tune was then revealed to have been written by Robert Grant of Peterculter.

Many thanks to all the entries for composing 6 very good unes, but unfortunately there had to be only 1 winner and congratulations go to Robert for his winning entry, a four parted 12/8 March.

 

Aberdeenshire P&D Taster - Inverurie

4th March 2009

The final youth pipe and drum workshop for this session is on Saturday 7th March 2009 at Inverurie Academy.

We've a good number booked in already, but there are some spaces for those who haven't managed to attend yet. If you wan to come along and don't have an application form, send an email to info@tradarr.com with a contact number and we'll book you in over the phone. You are most welcome to turn up on the day at 9.40am sharpand we'll get you signed up then also.

We all had a great morning at Stonehaven last weekend. So much in fact that many are keen to come again to the next workshop.

YMI Trad-arr Update

The Youth Music Initiative (YMI) . Trad-Arr Partnership has now been running a Piping Pilot in Aberdeenshire Schools since January 2008. Please see the attached PDF for an update on the progress of this exciting development in local schools to promote Pipes and Drums.

Social Nights

16th October 2008

Looking for a night out on the tiles? Why not support your fellow bandsmen at the same time! Bucksburn & Towie Pipe Bands are holding fundraising social nights in the near future and would love to see everyone along for a night out.

Bucksburn & District are hosting a St Andrews Ceilidh on Friday 21st November at The Forum opposite His Majesty's Theatre in Aberdeen. Tickets are £10 and include stovies, ceilidh band Cabrach and short performances from the junior and senior bands. Contact their website for more details.

Towie & District are holding their Annual Social Night on Saturday 1st November at the Towie Hall.

 

NYPB Outreach - Inverurie

5th October 2008

As part of our aim to assist our fellow pipers and drummers in the North East, the National Youth Pipe Band have agreed to come up and host an 'Outreach Training Course' at Inverurie Academy over the weekend of 25th and 26th October 2008.

The course is open to all pipers and drummers aged up to 21 years old and best of all, it's FREE!

It promised to be a great couple of days with top tutors from the National Piping Centre in Glasgow.

There will also be a concert share on the Sunday afternoon at 3pm, where all participants will have the opportunity to take part as well as the superb NYPB.
If you've never seen these lads and lasses before. Take it from me there fab!
There's a concert entrance fee of £5.00 for all parents and public etc.

You'll find a course application attached and I would very much appreciate if details could be included on any relevant web sites.

We'd also be delighted to welcome anyone along for a chit-chat.
Whether you're a band/solo player, tutor, drum major or general enthusiast etc. Come on down for a cuppa and a blether!

AIYF Splore Piping Class

21st May 2008

The Splore, Aberdeen International Youth Festival's Scottish Traditional Music School, is being revived this year and includes a two day specialist piping workshop aimed at 12 - 16 year olds.

Please see the attached flyer for more details and application form.


We have actual hard copies of the flyer if you need, so please reply with your address.

The workshop is aimed at those just started playing the pipes and whom can play a few tunes.
It would be unsuitable for absolute beginners or those without bagpipes.

If any of you have learners, know of other tutors/bands whom may have or connections to local organisations that would be interested, please do spread the word.

The course will run on 31st July and 1st August at Kings College, Aberdeen and is offered at a terrific reduced rate of only £10.00 per day with lunch included. What more can I say!

It promises to be a great couple of days for those just starting their piping journey in the North East.
