NOS Champion of Champions

Once again Buchan Peterson Pipe Band held a fantastic local competition in Aden Park, Mintlaw on Sunday the 7th August.  There was a great turn out of local bands and the grade 1 winners were Buchan Peterson Pipe Band who also scooped up the grade 2 prize,  grade 3 winners were 2622 Highland Squadron, Elgin & District took home the prize for grade 4 MSR and Culter & District were the grade 4 March winners. The contest also included the announcement of the North of Scotland champion of champions.  Buchan Peterson Pipe band won the champions of champions contest in both grade 1 and grade 2.  2622 squadron were also crowned North of Scotland champion of champions in grade 3......

Dornoch Massed Bands

On Saturday 30th April, a massed bands event involving nine local pipe bands was held in Dornoch to help raise funds for the rehabilitation of local nine year old boy, Dylan Davidson.  On the 27th November 2015 Dylan was involved in a serious road accident outside Dornoch academy and one of the first police officers on the scene was PS Peter Allan, who nine years earlier had to deliver Dylan at the side of the road as his parents didn’t make it in time to the hospital for him to be born.  After Dylan’s accident he underwent three months of intense physiotherapy to help him to walk and talk again. Piping Live! success

On the 9th of August 2016 Danny Hutcheson, one of the NOS Branch’s promising young pipers will head off to Glasgow to take part in Pipe Idol which is one of the many events, sponsored by Fred Morrison Pipes, that make up the Piping Live! festival which runs in the week leading up to the world pipe band championships.  This competition sees the best young players, aged 21 & under, from across the world compete across 4 heats to make it to the Pipe Idol grand final.  Danny, from Buchan Peterson Pipe Band, has made it to the final 16 of the competition and will perform at the Street café outside the National Piping Centre, in front of a live audience......

BEM from the Queen

On the 10th of June The Queen had her official 90th birthday when she recognised the achievements and service of extraordinary people who make outstanding and significant contributions to their local communities.  Ellon and District RBL are both extremely proud and delighted to announce, that after being nominated by Colin Anderson for his dedication and commitment to the development of both young and old players for over 40 years.  Drew Robertson has been awarded a British Empire Medal (BEM).  Congratulations Drew a thoroughly deserved award.  This year Drew was also awarded the Best of Formartine award which as presented by Inspiring Aberdeenshire at Haddo House in June, the award was sponsored by BP. 2622 are European Champions

2622 Highland Squadron Pipe band competed at their first Major Championship of the year on the 25th of June at Grant Park, Forres and were delighted to become European Champions in the grade 3B section, both as a band and a drum crops.  The branch would like to congratulate all the North of Scotland bands that competed and those that made it into the prize list.
